Through a pro bono partnership established with Learn iT! in May of 2014, Larkin Street has been fortunate to have our youth attend weekly computer skills classes at Learn iT! in the Financial District.
Employment Training Program (ETP), Institute for Higher Learning (IHL) and Hospitality Learning Center participants have benefited from Learn iT! Workshops, as instructors taught participants how to better navigate the programs to use in their everyday professional lives.
“My favorite thing about Learn iT! was learning new shortcuts for the computer. Also learning how to use Outlook. Thanks for the new computer experience!” – Derrick Miller, Larkin Street client
Nearly 80 youth participated in the classes and many responded that the two classes they liked best were Microsoft PowerPoint and Word – programs they use most often. Youth explained how surprised they were by how much more they were able to do after participating in the classes.
”My favorite part about Learn iT! were the little shortcuts that I feel I probably would have used my whole life had I known of them before. ‘Ctrl+Shift’ to quickly navigate through text blocks and efficiently select things is quite life-changing!” – Jesse Weber, Larkin Street client
In addition, staff have been attending pro bono tailored workshops at Learn iT! for Larkin Street’s new systems: SharePoint and Office 365.
