Manager of Youth Advisory Board (YAB) and Art

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:  With oversight from the Director of Larkin Street Academy, the Manager will lead and oversee all aspects of the Youth Advisory Board and Art programs.  The Manager is responsible for the development, implementation, and daily operations of the programs.  Responsibilities include the supervision of staff and contractors; development and implementation of services; ensuring compliance with grants, contracts, and budgets; and fostering and maintain community partnerships.

The Manager also serves as a member of the Larkin Street Academy management team and assists with the development and implementation of policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Hire, train, and supervise staff and contractors
  • Plan, design, implement, and evaluate youth advisory board and art programming
  • Prepare program budgets and monitor expenses
  • Plan monthly and annual events
  • Identify areas of collaboration across programs; build relationships and implement partnerships with community organizations
  • Track program deliverables using both qualitative and quantitative evaluation methods
  • Disseminate a monthly review and calendar of events to appropriate staff members
  • Participate in Monthly Larkin Street Academy Graduations, collaborating with the Larkin Street Academy team
  • As well as any other responsibilities as directed by your supervisor

YAB

  • Work with program managers across agency to coordinate YAB representatives for each program so that all Larkin Street youth have representation
  • Participate in and also coordinate youth participation in Continuous Quality Improvement Teams
  • Schedule and oversee youth attendance at conferences, local hearings, All Staff meetings, and other appropriate opportunities
  • Coordinate youth participation in panels, workshops, and speaking engagements at relevant community events

Art

  • Manage music production, fine arts/design, and computer arts/media design workshops
  • Develop and implement strategies to outreach to youth across the agency
  • Manage contractors schedules and payment
  • In conjunction with Larkin Street Academy management team, the Manager will develop programming that creates pathways toward career in arts related fields

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for supporting program services within the milieu.  For example, crisis intervention or helping to maintain the safety of the program
  • Run weekly data reports for programs and report relevant contract data to Management of LSA
  • Maintain professional standards of performance, demeanor and appearance at all times
  • Perform tasks and responsibilities in a complete and timely manner, complying with agency policies and standards and conforming to the requirements of this job description
  • Maintain an awareness of the agency’s mission and work to promote the positive individual and social change goals it embodies
  • Exercise discretion, confidentiality, and professional judgment at all times keeping with the responsibilities carried personally and by the agency for the care and welfare of staff and to the youth in which we serve
  • Actively strive to upgrade professional skills through engaging in appropriate professional training and experience
  • Other duties as assigned by your supervisor and management

PHYSICAL & LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Requires ability to lift, transfer, push/pull, maneuver, and reposition 25 lbs
  • Finger manipulation
  • Ability to comprehend complex materials
  • Ability to speak and write English clearly and accurately

EDUCATION: 

  • Bachelor Degree in social work or related field

 BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE:

  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Experience working with adolescents as a vocational counselor/job developer or in the field of public relations
  • Experience in working in a multi-cultural, diverse environment is highly desired
  • Must also have the ability to work with high-risk youth and with diverse staff, clients, and volunteers
  • Experience working with youth is highly desired, especially at-risk, homeless or runaway youth
