Volunteer

As a community-based nonprofit organization, Larkin Street Youth Services depends upon the support and input of the community for its success.  A vital aspect of that support is volunteerism.  The energy, skills, creativity, and time that volunteers contribute to Larkin Street enable our programs to provide high quality, responsive services for youth across a continuum of care.  From tutoring twice a week to spearheading a holiday gift drive to hosting an activity night, volunteering can look very different for different people.  Larkin Street has volunteer opportunities for people with various skills, interests, and availability.

Ongoing volunteer opportunities include:

  • Outreach to youth on the streets.
  • Assist with food preparation, administrative tasks, or educational groups.
  • Provide GED tutoring, computer skills training, and resume help.
  • Share a special talent, such as knitting or cooking, or lead an activity.
  • Mentor a youth and provide one-on-one support.
  • Intern in one of our direct services program as a Job Readiness Class Assistant Instructor, Drop-In counselor, or as an Outreach counselor.  Intern in an administrative role and gain valuable experience in business research, volunteer coordination, or on other special projects.

Requirements:

  • All volunteers must be at least 21 years old (mentors age 25+).
  • Ongoing volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of three hours per week for at least 6 months. Mentors are asked to commit to spending a minimum of 4–6 hours with their mentees each month for a minimum of one year. Intern commitment will be determined on an individual basis.
