Dear Friends,
As we process the results of Tuesday’s election, I’m reflecting on what this moment means for all of us. We may hold different perspectives, but we can all recognize that some members of our community—the youth we serve, friends, family, and colleagues—may be feeling a heightened sense of vulnerability. For people who are BIPOC, LGBTQ+, have an immigration story, or rely on safe, accessible reproductive health care, this moment in history can feel especially uncertain as we face potential policy changes.
At Larkin Street, we stand firm in our commitment to protecting the rights, safety, and dignity of our entire community, especially the most vulnerable. Every day, we strive to be a place where young people feel safe and supported, where they know they are valued for who they are. It is our role to come together, now and always, to offer stability and care for those who need it most. Today, like any other day, young people deserve reassurance that Larkin Street is a place where they are safe to be BIPOC, LGBTQ+, an immigrant, or someone seeking health care.
While we don’t yet know what the coming years may bring, I know this: together, we can face any challenge. For 40 years, our Larkin Street community has come together to make real change, to keep young people safe, and to build pathways out of homelessness. We have shown that when we stand together, we’re able to create lasting opportunities and brighter futures for the young people we serve.
As we move forward, let’s continue showing up for each other and for our young people. Thank you for your steadfast support and for being part of this mission. Together, we’re creating a future where every young person has the chance to thrive.
