Emergency Shelters
We have two emergency shelter options depending on your age. Beds are limited — connect with a TAY Navigator early to explore availability and next steps.
Lark Inn
A 34-bed, co-ed dorm-style shelter for youth 18–24. Beds are limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis. To access, connect with a TAY Navigator Monday–Friday, 9 AM–4 PM.
Diamond Youth Shelter
A shelter for youth ages 12–17 focused on reuniting with family or finding stable housing. One of the few minor shelters in the Bay Area, with space for up to 16 youth. Open for self-referral 24/7.
Transitional Living Programs
Time-limited housing (up to 2 years or until age 25) where youth live rent-free, build savings, and work with case managers on education and employment goals. To be considered, reach out to a TAY Navigator to request placement on the waitlist.
Castro Youth Housing Initiative (CYHI)
31 scattered-site beds and 7 congregate beds for LGBTQ+ youth, including a specialized program for transgender individuals.
Assisted Care/Aftercare
Congregate housing with on-site specialty services for youth who are HIV positive or at high risk. Includes 12 private rooms at Hyde and 8 shared rooms at Hugo House.
LEASE
Scattered-site housing for emancipated foster youth, including parenting TAY, available for up to three years. Referrals required through the Human Services Agency.
Geary House
Dorm-style transitional housing for up to 35 youth.
1020 Haight
Dorm-style transitional housing for up to 15 youth, specializing in ages 18–21.
Turning Point
Dorm-style transitional housing for up to 12 youth in Berkeley — Larkin Street’s first East Bay location. Youth are referred through Alameda County.
Rapid rehousing & rental subsidies
A 2–3 year program where youth work with a case manager to build stable income, gradually taking on rent until they’re fully independent — leaving with rental history and financial stability. To be considered, meet with a TAY Navigator to complete a housing assessment. Eligibility depends on your assessment score.
Pathways I
A graduated rental subsidy covering up to 75% of rent for a period of time, helping youth afford their own apartment. Requires three months of employment to be referred.
Pathways II
Open to up to 15 youth, this program provides a case manager to help find housing and support with rent payments.
Rising Up
Rental assistance and supportive services for up to 64 young adults exiting homelessness, placed in independent housing with a subsidy aimed at achieving housing and economic stability. In partnership with Brilliant Corners.
ALCOR
Rental assistance and supportive services for up to 20 young adults exiting homelessness, placed in independent housing. In partnership with Covenant House.
SOAR
Rental assistance and supportive services for up to 48 youth who have successfully exited a Transitional Living Program.
Supportive housing
Permanent housing with your own lease, supported by ongoing Larkin Street case management — a good fit for youth who benefit from continued support. To be considered, meet with a TAY Navigator to complete a housing assessment. Eligibility depends on your assessment score.
