We are thrilled to share the news that the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded San Francisco $2.9 million through the Youth Homelessness Demonstration Project. San Francisco is one of just ten cities selected nationwide!

Many folks on the team here at Larkin Street, as well young people in our services, participated in the planning meetings that the City convened while developing the proposal. This was a community-wide effort, and the efforts of youth and providers citywide were critical to San Francisco’s success.

Now the work begins. The Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing (DHSH) will spend the next year working with providers and youth to develop a coordinated plan outlining how the entire community will work together to prevent and end youth homelessness. Eventually, the City will make competitive sub-grants to providers like Larkin Street to help carry out that plan.

This is a game-changer in San Francisco, and shows that youth homelessness is on the map as a citywide, and national, priority.
