PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:

The Learning Design Specialist will design learning content for Larkin Street staff and clients. The Learning Design Specialist will work in partnership with the Director of Employee Development & Training to coordinate, design and deliver training for Case Managers, Residential Counselors, and Program Teams in collaboration with the Chief of Talent and the Program Directors. This role will be an integral part of the team, with primary responsibility for creating effective learning experiences to support Larkin Street’s new LMS.

This role is ideal for candidates who have some experience in instructional design, graphic design, video production & editing, and digital arts. This training content will support the work of every department within the organization and will be tailored to meet the needs of staff at varying career stages.

Success in this role requires the ability to merge creative ideas with tactical execution while incorporating a passion and curiosity about new and emerging technologies. Project management skills will help the successful candidate to handle multiple work streams and generate high-quality deliverables.  Success also requires balancing listening to needs with asserting new ideas, and the ability to merge both into a valuable user experience.

The Learning Design Specialist will also support the Director of Employee Development & Training in the coordination, facilitation and evaluation of in-person trainings.

The Learning Design Specialist will also have the opportunity to interact with staff and clients to gain feedback from subject matter experts, serve as a group facilitator, and advocate, participating in creating and sustaining a positive learning environment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

  • Support the coordination and management of the Employee Development & Training program across Larkin Street.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts (internal and external) to clarify course objectives and collect content
  • Generate ideas for design mockups and storyboards based on course objectives and available content
  • Ensure training aligns with Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) initiative.
  • Create project plans for each course; execute deliverables on time
  • Produce and edit audio and video elements as needed
  • Produce and edit text, images and diagrams for user guides as needed
  • Beta test and revise courses as needed, using rigorous attention to detail
  • Incorporate feedback from users as needed, constantly elevating the level of product and service
  • Design and execute group facilitation of content
  • Actively seek to build knowledge of the learning and development space with particular attention to technology; shares and uses new technology in developing online learning content
  • With the support from the Director, evaluate or provide evaluation measures to ensure employees are adequately implementing the desired knowledge and skills.
  • Support a small, lean team with whatever is needed (team will have ‘all hands on deck’ approach); examples include but not limited to organizing training logistics, testing tech infrastructure, editing content for other projects, etc.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate in strategic planning for the ongoing development of Larkin Street Learning
  • Join and sometimes facilitate group sessions with staff and clients
  • Work with the Director to establish training needs to address agency outcomes and objectives.
  • Ensure the recording of training data (attendance, evaluations) for grant reports ensuring compliance with grants and budgets.
  • Participate in staff meetings and trainings
  • Be an excellent collaborator with all stakeholders in the agency

 BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE:

  • 2-3 years’ working experience/study in graphic design, web design or digital arts preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially PowerPoint required
  • Experience with e-learning and course authoring software, preferred Articulate 360
  • Strong design sensibility and ability to share work samples
  • Excellent project management skills with demonstrated record of meeting/exceeding deadlines
  • Ability to take direction and work independently
  • Collaborative attitude; eagerness to learn and receive feedback
  • Strong writing, editing and research skills
  • Excellent verbal skills, including public speaking
  • Interest in and comfort with exploring new technologies
