These funds address systemic inequities in housing, education, and economic opportunity. As Adams and her co-authors emphasize:
“Systemic stumbling blocks demand seismic shifts. This is earnest work. This is sacred work. It has to start sometime, and that time is now.”
Why the Dream Keeper Initiative Matters for Black San Franciscans
The Dream Keeper Initiative has already provided transformative support for Black-owned businesses, students, and families, offering pathways to economic independence and career growth. Through partnerships with historically Black colleges and universities and collaborations with local organizations like MegaBlack SF, the initiative invests in community-led solutions. With delays in funding, however, critical programs and progress are at risk.
Fulfilling San Francisco’s Promise of Equity
As Adams stresses in the op-ed:
“We do not have a talent deficit in San Francisco—rather, we have an opportunity gap.”
By releasing these funds, the city has the chance to honor its commitment to equity—ensuring that every neighborhood has the resources and opportunities to thrive.
