Celebrating a New Chapter: Turning Point Reopens in Berkeley
Today, Larkin Street Youth Services proudly celebrates the grand reopening of Turning Point in Berkeley, marking our first expansion into the East Bay. This milestone reflects our commitment to reaching more young people and building stronger, more inclusive communities.
This achievement would not have been possible without the unwavering support of our partners—the
City of Berkeley,
Alameda County, and
HUD. Their collaboration and dedication have enabled us to enhance our services and create meaningful change in the fight against youth homelessness.
Assemblymember Buffy Wicks, who spoke at the grand reopening and ribbon-cutting ceremony, shared:
“The Turning Point facility has done incredible work to support youth experiencing homelessness in Berkeley and the East Bay. This handover to Larkin Street has enabled critical facility upgrades and program enhancements which will not only preserve this essential pillar of local support, but also ensure that Turning Point can best meet the needs of current and future clients and strengthen youth homelessness services in Alameda County more broadly.”
About Turning Point
Turning Point is a temporary, transitional housing program assisting young people aged 18-25 to obtain and maintain independent permanent housing. As part of the Alameda County Coordinated Entry System, Turning Point is staffed 24 hours a day and offers:
- Transitional housing for youth ages 18-25 for up to 24 months
- Case management and life-skill training
- Health and wellness services, including individual and group therapy
- Educational supports, such as GED testing and college placement
- Employment supports, including internship and job placements
Originally developed by Fred Finch Youth & Family Services, Turning Point has a rich history of supporting youth. Building on this foundation, we’ve renovated and enhanced the facility to provide even greater impact across the Bay Area.
Expanding Our Reach Through Turning Point
Our expansion into Berkeley represents a pivotal step in serving a broader community and advancing our vision of a world where every young person can thrive. This newly updated space symbolizes not just growth but a renewed commitment to transforming lives. With expanded capacity and welcoming environments, Turning Point now offers even more opportunities for youth to access the resources and support they need to pursue their aspirations.
